H1N1 Full Availability – Office Flu Clinics

By January 4, 2010No Comments

We just were notified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health that we can offer H1N1 vaccine to anyone in our practice. They have provided us (at last) with sufficient supplies to meet any reasonable need, probably more than that (also not surprising). This has been an extraordinarily disorganized public health effort, at least as viewed from our practice vantage point. The most important message, though, is that we now have the vaccine and believe that healthy people, not just high risk, should get it.

To make getting the vaccine as simple as possible, Orchard Health Care will provide the vaccine to any of our members, without appointment, on four days this week and next:

Wednesday, January 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Friday, January 8, from 8:30 till noon
Monday, January 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wednesday, January 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Should these times not meet your needs, please call the office and schedule a time more convenient to you.  We do hope to immunize everyone in the practice who wants to be immunized against the “swine flu” over the next two weeks.

Let me reiterate. The vaccine is effective and safe. The side effect profile for adults is like that of seasonal flu vaccine: nothing adverse happens with only truly rare exceptions. The disease is waning, but real. The vaccine is free. Dr. Isselbacher and I think it makes sense for everyone to be immunized. We will have good coffee available. Does it get any better in the medical world?
