The Progressive Decline of Primary Care

A year ago, I wrote a letter to the Harvard Medical Alumni Bulletin, decrying the decline of primary care and asking why my alma mater was so singularly uninvolved in this critical public issue. Last month the Bulletin published my letter, which is attached for your review. The long delay before publication unfortunately  reflects Harvard’s relative lack of involvement in primary care issues. HMS Alumni Magazine letter

Your article and the Newshour segment were very helpful in understanding the magnitude of the problem and how difficult it will be to steer successfully new doctors to careers in primary care.
Clearly it is a major problem now that will get even worse unless medical school debt is forgiven completely or in large part, insurance payments increase, or some other major steps are taken soon.
